Shearings responds to river cruise bookings boom
Following the last decade’s growth in sea cruising, it seems it is now the turn of river cruising to experience a similar bookings boom, as holidaymakers look for fresh experiences and good value for money.
Shearings Holidays, one of the UK’s leading providers of river cruises, says bookings have grown by 23% in the last year and, as a result, the company has this week launched its biggest ever programme for 2011.
The new brochure features new destinations, two new ships offering exclusive Shearings cruises and competitive pricing, with cruises held at 2010 prices or lower. For the first time Shearings is also offering an option for customers to extend their river cruise with a stay in resort.
Caroline Brown, commercial director for Shearings, said: “River cruising is gaining in popularity and we’re seeing a significant rise in bookings across all our cruises, particularly those on the Danube river.
“Our new brochure offers some of our top cruises as well as some brand new itineraries including Croatia and Bordeaux. For those who want to enjoy the experience without going abroad we’re also offering our first ever UK river cruise on the Thames.
“Our new option to extend the trip with a resort stay gives holidaymakers the opportunity to offer the best of both worlds, the chance to combine a relaxing cruise experience with a cultural city break or a relaxing beach holiday. In addition we’re holding prices at 2010 levels, or even lowering prices on some cruises, and offering early booking discounts to give great value.”
To cater for the increased demand, Shearings has increased its fleet of exclusively chartered ships to five, with the introduction of two new vessels, the 4-star MPS Da Vinci and the 4-star MS Seine Princess. The Da Vinci, exclusive to Shearings, is a three deck ship which sails on the Rhine, Main and Danube and is described as one of the most elegant and impressive river cruise vessels of Western Europe. The MS Seine Princess is a friendly and comfortable three deck ship sailing on the Seine.
The increased capacity and 12 new itineraries bring Shearings’ total number of river cruises to 41 across 17 vessels.
