Shearings plans further expansion of hotel business
Leading tour operator Shearings GroupShearings Group is investing in its hotel business with the acquisition of its 50th property and plans to increase its portfolio even further over the next three years.
The Charlecote Pheasant Hotel near Stratford-upon-Avon is the latest hotel to be acquired by Shearings and follows the company’s success of 2009 during which the hotels’ business saw an eight per cent rise in total income.
Shearings believes its growth has been boosted by the changing market and the decision to create two new hotel brands, Bay and Coast & Country, designed to appeal to both package and self drive customers.
Vince Flower, managing director of Shearings Hotels, said: “The acquisition of The Charlecote Pheasant Hotel represents a milestone for Shearings, being the 50th hotel to be added to the chain, and will be an excellent addition to our Coast & Country portfolio.
“The last two years have seen a strong resurgence of the British holiday and our investment in the business has been well timed to capitalise on this. Our two distinct brands have enabled us to expand our reach to the independent travel market as well as the traditional coaching customer.
“Our aim is to be the UK’s leading leisure hotel operator, offering the complete range of hotel choices for the leisure customer.”
The 72 bedroom Charlecote Pheasant Hotel is a country house hotel located close to J15 of the M40, near Stratford upon Avon, Warwick and Leamington Spa. It brings the number of Shearings Coast & Country hotels up to 14 and is the first of a number of potential properties being looked at by the company.
Vince added: “We plan to expand our portfolio of Bay and Coast & Country Hotels by adding up to ten new properties over the next three years.”
Shearings’ latest investment follows a £10m investment in the refurbishment of its 49-strong UK hotel collection last year.
