Shearings furthers expansion plans with new MD

Shearings Group has appointed Ruth Connor as managing director of its Shearings Holidays division to lead the business forward as it continues to expand.

Ruth joins the Wigan-based firm from Gold Medal Travel Group, where she was sales and marketing director, and brings more than 10 years’ experience to the role.

Her appointment with Shearings is a new role within the business and marks another milestone in the company’s growth strategy to develop each of its divisional businesses. Ruth’s appointment by the group follows the appointments last year of Vince Flower, MD of Hotels and Graham Rogers, MD of National Holidays and Caledonian Travel.

Denis Wormwell, chief executive of Shearings Group, said: “Ruth’s appointment is a crucial step in our development as a leading holiday specialist and we’re delighted to welcome her to the company.

“Her role will involve leading the strong team that we already have in place and helping the Shearings Holidays division to further realise its exciting growth plans.”

Ruth Connor, new managing director for Shearings Holidays, said: “This is an exciting time for Shearings and I’m looking forward to this new role within the company, particularly the challenge of driving the business forward as it continues to evolve from traditional coach operator to over-50s specialist tour operator.”

Ruth will report to the company’s chief executive, Denis Wormwell.
