Expert new team drives Shearings expansion
As part of its expansion plans, Shearings has made several new senior appointments to help lead its growing commercial team and launch its 2010 brochures.
The Wigan-based firm has appointed Chris Barker as its new Marketing Manager, with responsibilities including trade, PR and online. Chris brings more than 20 years experience in the travel industry, with a background including senior marketing and commercial roles at a number of travel companies including Cresta Holidays.
The firm’s business development manager, Michael Bowers, has been made the new Sales Manager. Michael, who joined Wallace Arnold in 1999 and headed up the trade sales team before the firm merged with Shearings, brings 11 years experience to the role and will be responsible for maintaining and developing travel trade sales on a local, regional and national level.
The company has also appointed three new commercial managers to grow the existing programmes for Shearings Holidays both in terms of passenger numbers and margin.
Matthew Herbert is the UK Holidays Manager, and with 13 years experience in travel, his focus is to grow the UK and Ireland passenger carryings with Shearings by offering a larger variety of tours and increasing relations with third party hotels.
Sophie Cann is the Europe Holidays Manager, a role which will focus on continuing to grow Shearings’ reputation as a leading escorted tour operator, offering a wide selection of attractively priced holidays.
Patricia Birmingham is the Product Development Manager with responsibility for commercial management of Shearings’ product development including its river cruise programme, sea cruising, rail, air and worldwide development. She joins from BCT Travel Group and brings 14 years experience to the role.
All new appointments will report to commercial director Caroline Brown.
Shearings’ four new 2010 brochures include 30 new UK tours, 12 new European itineraries and 34 river cruise holidays across 14 ships. The company is also launching its first ever sea cruise this month.
