Former Vodafone senior executive appointed to board of Genesis Communications
Former Vodafone senior executive David Jones has been appointed as non-executive Chairman of the Genesis Communications Group, the UK’s largest independent mobile virtual service provider.
During his twenty-one year career with Vodafone David held key roles both in the UK and internationally.
As Managing Director of Vodafone Connect and then Managing Director - Sales and Distribution for Vodafone UK, David played a fundamental role in driving customer growth in the business. In the early 2000’s David was appointed CEO of Vodafone Netherlands and then COO of Vodafone KK. From 2005, as CEO – European Affiliates, David was responsible as a member of their boards for Vodafone’s affiliate businesses in a number of European markets.
David will work with the Genesis board to deliver its unified communications strategy providing SMEs with flexible and cost-effective communications and hosted IT, converging mobile voice and data services, hosted IT and hosted PBX solutions. He will also work alongside the Genesis senior management team to further develop strategic partnerships across the UK mobile and hosted IT sectors.

David Jones has more than 30 years senior business experience including more than 20 years specifically in the UK and international mobile sector with Vodafone. He is a Fellow Member of the Chartered Institute of Management Accountants and prior to joining Vodafone had a career as an accountant in the oil, retailing and computer industries.David joined Vodafone in 1986 and held a number of senior roles during his 21 year career with the company. He was appointed Managing Director of the major service provider Vodafone Connect in 1993 and then Managing Director – Sales and Distribution for Vodafone UK during a period of sustained customer and revenue growth which included the introduction of prepaid products into the marketplace.
Since 2001 David has held a number of senior roles in Vodafone’s international businesses. From 2001 until 2004 he was CEO and Chairman of the Management Board of Vodafone Netherlands which was the number 2 operator in that market. He was then appointed COO and a Representative Executive Officer of Vodafone KK in Japan. David was then appointed CEO – European Affiliates responsible as a member of their boards for Vodafone’s interests in their affiliate businesses in France, Belgium, Switzerland and Poland.
