Cornwall firm aims to crack public sector work
A Cornwall-based contractor is moving into the growing social housing market – with new, system-built, environmentally friendly homes that can be built in just 8 weeks.
Viridian Homes believes its new product will help meet the rising demand for social housing, as housing associations work to meet the Government’s target to build 21,481 new affordable homes in the South West by 2011.
The properties are hitting the top grades for air permeability, sound proofing and Energy Performance Certificates – ensuring they already meet the Government’s sustainable homes goals set for 2013.
The National Federation of Builders (NFB) - which represents over 1,500 small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) across England and Wales – has supported Viridian’s move into new markets.
The firm supplies the houses fully furnished and on a fixed price contract from £55,000 per property. They give twice the normal warranty and remove many of the delays associated with normal building methods.
Viridian Homes also supply builders, developers and self-build clients across Wales and the South West of England.
Graham Farrall, director of Viridian Homes is taking advantage of the NFB’s helplines to guide his firm through the transition into the social housing market.
Graham said: “The NFB’s helplines have been invaluable in providing us with quality, free advice to help fill out the necessary paperwork involved in tendering for housing association work.
“We are able to fulfill the need for quality social housing extremely quickly and can therefore pass on our low overheads to our clients, but it is quite a lengthy and confusing admin process. The NFB has helped us to complete it all as quickly and painlessly as possible.”
Andrew Percy, regional director for the NFB, said: “It is great to see a local company playing to their strengths during such difficult times. It is sometimes hard for firms without dedicated admin teams to complete the necessary paperwork required to tender for public sector work. One of the services we offer as a Federation is helping companies navigate their way through this process, to ensure that SMEs get a fair shot at any jobs that fall within their remit.”
In addition to providing specialist advice and business services, the Federation, with a network of eight regional offices, lobbies local, national and European government on a range of issues to sustain positive trading conditions for members.
