Renting is more expensive than buying in Wem

As the cost of renting steadily increases in Wem, savvy homebuyers are looking to housebuilder first time buyer schemes to get them onto the property ladder.

Buyers who take advantage of schemes like the Government-led HomeBuy Direct scheme – available on a range of properties at the Saxon Fields development, off Aston Street – can significantly reduce the cost of the monthly mortgage repayments as well as the size of the deposit.

The popular HomeBuy Direct scheme enables qualifying first time buyers to purchase a new home with a mortgage for just 70 per cent of its market value.

Julie Smith, regional sales director for Morris, said: “People are starting to get savvy when it comes to judging what’s right for them in the housing market and weighing up the true cost of owning versus renting.

“To own your two bedroom home at Saxon Fields using HomeBuy Direct will cost just £495 a month.

“And with the hike in rental prices, the same property in the area could cost a would-be first time buyer an average of £550 a month to rent*.”

The scheme is available on a range of one, two and three bedroom homes at the Saxon Fields development starting from just £80,325. **
