Pupils get eco advice from local housebuilder

Pupils at The Maelor School have been learning how both housebuilders and homeowners can do their bit to save the environment.

Dylan O’Brien, projects director for Morris, the developer behind Penmere Park in Penley, visited the school to talk with Year 10 science students about how developers like Morris are building new homes that are as environmentally-friendly as possible.

Dylan also offered advice on what the school and pupils and their families can do to help the environment.

Julie Smith, regional sales director for Morris, said: “The effect that modern living has been having on our world has become a particularly hot topic over the last few years.

“As such, it’s important to us to demonstrate that housebuilders are taking steps to improve the outlook by building environmentally-sound new homes, and also do our bit to educate future generations about how they can protect our planet.

“Introducing just a few changes to your home, like insulating your loft or turning down your heating by a few degrees, can help the environment and also make a huge difference to your household bills.”

Teacher Joanne Lee added: “As a school, we believe it’s important for students to lean about international issues such as these in all areas of the curriculum.

“We’re grateful to Morris for sharing their expertise with the pupils and are confident that they will apply Dylan’s tips to their everyday lives both at home and at school, and hopefully also pass on what they’ve learned to their parents.”
