Green is the new black at East Midlands Designer Outlet
Green is the colour of 2010 at East Midlands Designer Outlet following a series of initiatives by the centre to reduce its environmental impact.
Over the last year the outlet has recycled in excess of 170 tonnes of cardboard, 12 tonnes of plastic film, 3.5 tonnes of coat hangers and over 19 tonnes of metal and wood.
The centre has been working in partnership with waste management contractors to identify alternative routes for disposal of the remaining waste and has now achieved the enviable position of reducing waste to landfill to zero.
As part of its focus on all things green the outlet has also been decorated with a wide range of plants and shrubs to make the malls more inviting for shoppers.
Martin Brightmore, facilities manager of East Midlands Designer Outlet, said: “It’s important that businesses do their bit to reduce their impact on the environment and often small changes to company procedures can make a huge difference.
“We’ve brought in a number of new measures at the outlet to ensure that as much waste as possible is recycled and are delighted with the impact this has had.
“All the retailers at the outlet have really got behind our initiative and have gone a long way in helping us to make a difference.”
East Midlands Designer Outlet is located just off J28 of the M1 and has over 70 stores including Ben Sherman, Game Outlet and Marks and Spencer Outlet. For more information visit www.eastmidlandsdesigneroutlet.com
