Colchester man sheds four stone by ditching office job
Mark Bird (44) from Colchester has pounded over 1,300 miles of pavement and lost four stone in weight after swapping his desk job for a new career.
Mark left his job as a sales rep in May 2009 and started his own business with catalogue company Kleeneze alongside his wife Alison, delivering and picking up catalogues door-to-door and dropping off customers’ orders.
As a result, Mark has gone from 19 stone to just over 14 stone and dropped three clothes sizes.
Mark said: “In my old job, I was either sitting at my desk or travelling by car or train, and was getting almost no exercise. I barely noticed the weight piling on but, by the time I was made redundant, it had become a real issue.
“We’d known of Kleeneze for years as a couple of friends of ours have had their own business with the company for some time, so I decided to give it a go while I looked for another job in my field.”
However, Mark quickly discovered that the flexibility his new job offered him has many benefits, and decided to pursue it as a permanent opportunity.
Mark said: “My lifestyle has changed completely. I’m now out and about for walking up to six miles per day, and I’m able to take our son to and from school while Alison concentrates on her full-time job as a hypnotherapist.
“Business is booming – we now have our own team of distributors, I actually enjoy my job for the first time and I’m essentially getting paid to loose excess pounds.
“The weight loss has been gradual, so it’ll be easy to maintain, and the best part of being fitter is I can finally keep up with my son again.”
New figures released by Kleeneze reveal that Mark is not alone in reaping the benefits of having such an active job.
68% of its 10,000 distributors report that they have lost weight through their work with Kleeneze job. Of those who’ve benefitted from weight loss, 58% have shed more than a stone.
Jamie Stewart, managing director of Kleeneze, said: “The fact that Mark’s been able to bounce back from being made redundant to create his own successful Kleeneze business and shed his excess weight is admirable.
“At a time when many people are looking to make a fresh start for the New Year, his achievements only emphasise the many positive effects a change of career can have on both your work life and home life.
“Like Mark, many of our distributors are attracted to Kleeneze because it offers the opportunity to completely change your lifestyle, giving you the chance to be your own boss, work flexible hours and exercise more.”
Kleeneze distributors can work as and when they choose, using their business as either a supplementary source of income or as a chance to create a full-time opportunity.
