Keoghs partner scoops Defendant PI Lawyer of the Year Award
Andrew Underwood, a partner and head of large loss at law firm Keoghs, has been named Defendant Personal Injury Lawyer of the Year at the 2008 Personal Injury Awards.
Andrew was one of the principal lawyers involved in establishing the Forum of Insurance Lawyers (FOIL) in 1993. He sat on the Executive Committee for 12 years and was national president in 2004/5.
In his current role as chair of the Rules and Process Special Interest Group, Andrew is responsible for coordinating and drafting consultation responses and work on the ongoing Ministry of Justice process reforms.
More than 300 legal professionals attended the ceremony on Tuesday (November 4) at the Café Royal in London, hosted by Joshua Rozenberg.
John Whittle, CEO of Keoghs said: “This is a fantastic achievement for Andrew and the whole of his team.
“The award reflects in particular the market work Andrew has been involved in over the last five years including the development of the Multi Track Code – a process for handling higher value claims in a less adversarial way, benefitting both claimants and insurers.”
Andrew and his team are currently handling catastrophic injury cases with a combined value of over £150million.
Commenting on the award, Andrew said: “I was very surprised when I was nominated in the first place - to be included on the shortlist amongst such talented lawyers was very flattering. I really didn’t expect that I would win, but obviously I’m delighted.”
