Keoghs launches new teams to tackle growing fraud threat

Top 100 law firm Keoghs has launched two new teams within its Counter-Fraud Services unit to meet the challenges posed by growing levels of fraud and its increasing sophistication.

The move follows a 40 per cent growth in the number if instructions received by the unit in the past 12 months, reflected by a 26 per cent growth in staff numbers over the same period.

Two new specialist teams focused on first party and complex fraud have been created to join those already in place for motor and liability fraud, fraud rings and intelligence services.

The first party fraud team brings together the firm’s existing specialists in both non-motor fraud and commercial litigation – and will focus on suspicious claims made by policyholders across a range of business lines, including household, motor fire/theft, commercial property and creditor insurance.

The complex fraud team will deal with technically complex and high value suspicious claims, including strategic litigation and the pursuit of sanctions against fraudsters.

Changing the operational structure is the latest stage of the firm’s ongoing investment in the growth and development of its Counter Fraud Services Unit.

A number of senior staff have been recruited to the team, including Anthony Dale – formerly head of the Manchester fraud team at DWF – who has recently been appointed as a senior associate.

Anthony has seven years’ experience working for major insurers tackling wide-ranging fraud claims, including a number of high profile cases involving organised fraud rings – and working alongside the Insurance Fraud Bureau (IFB) and police.

Commenting on his new role, Anthony Dale said: "Keoghs has an excellent reputation in tackling fraud, thanks to its process-driven and intelligence-led approach developed over the last ten years – I am excited to be joining this highly professional and effective team."

James Heath, director of counter-fraud strategy at Keoghs, said: "As insurance fraud continues to grow dramatically and fraudsters become ever more sophisticated, it is vital that we continually review our structure and processes – and continue to invest in developing and attracting the best people in the industry.

"Anthony’s extensive experience will make him a major asset to our Counter-Fraud Services team."
