Hyder helps win planning approval for South West's tallest tower
Plymouth City Council has granted planning approval for Oceanique, a major mixed-use redevelopment featuring the South West’s tallest tower.
Hyder Consulting, supporting ADG Architects, has successfully taken this scheme to the RIBA stage C (outline design) in support of the planning application.
Additional services undertaken included flood risk assessment, wind climate assessment, sun shadow analysis and preparation of site investigation tender documents.
The development, which is on the former site of Television South West's headquarters in Plymouth's city centre, includes a 31 storey 120m high residential tower with 109 apartments, and two 9/10 storey blocks accommodating 2 hotels and 142 student apartments.
All buildings include retail accommodation at ground level fronting onto a pedestrian boulevard which bisects the site. A two-level underground car park will also accommodate 170 vehicles below boulevard level.
With a confirmed planning approval in place, developer Devington is proposing to commence work this autumn.
John Barton, Hyder’s project director on the Oceanique development, said: "Developer Devington Homes has put together an inspired commercial mix in this stunning scheme, giving it potential to lead the economic recovery of the South West."
