Hyder expands nuclear offering through partnership with Bradtec

Hyder Consulting, the leading advisory and design consultancy, has announced a long-term strategic partnership with nuclear decommissioning technology specialist Bradtec.

The agreement extends an existing partnership which enables Hyder to provide an enhanced range of nuclear-specific consultancy services.

Hyder’s capabilities include planning and engineering advice for the construction of nuclear power plants and infrastructure, stakeholder consultation and waste management, as well as decommissioning and environmental services.

Hyder’s capabilities include planning and engineering advice for the construction of nuclear power plants and infrastructure, stakeholder consultation and waste management, as well as decommissioning and environmental services.

Bradtec is recognised as a leading specialist in cutting-edge nuclear technology, having developed a number of processes used in decommissioning facilities and controlling nuclear waste volumes.

Thanks to the partnership, Hyder has recently secured several new consultancy framework agreements including an on-going waste-reduction framework for Magnox South, the operator of five nuclear sites currently being decommissioned.

The group has also won a four-year commission from the Nuclear Decommissioning Agency (NDA) on its Direct Research Portfolio (DRP) for waste processing.

Rod Stewart, regional managing director (UK), Hyder Consulting said: “This long-term strategic partnership will see us continue to work closely with Bradtec, offering a wide range of technical services to the nuclear power industry at this critical time in its development.

“We have secured several new consultancy frameworks this year and this has put us at the centre of the new-build power stations planning programme and at the cutting-edge of nuclear waste reduction strategies.

“The UK is at a crossroads in its energy needs – our existing nuclear power plants are reaching the end of their operational life and there is a pressing need to find new, secure and environmentally friendly power generation solutions to meet our energy needs today and into the future.

“We are confident the combined environmental planning and engineering skills that we provide will play a key role in the ongoing development and management of nuclear energy in the UK.”

The Hyder team will also be able to draw on specialist services from other areas including its public consultation, planning, water, waste management, geotechnics and renewable energy divisions.

David Bradbury, managing director of Bradtec commented: “By combining the skill sets of Hyder and Bradtec, we have created an offering that we believe will be among the most comprehensive and compelling available to energy planners and nuclear power operators in the UK.

“We have worked with Hyder for a number of years and this strategic partnership is a natural and logical progression for our already close relationship.”
