Biometrics experts launch 3G wireless site access system

Human Recognition Systems (HRS) – a biometric technology and identity management consultancy – has launched a wireless site access and information management solution for the construction sector, combining biometric information with 3G technology.

The system has been designed to tackle key industry concerns including health and safety litigation costs, site violations, ‘buddy punching’ and over charging by contractors.

It allows cable-free communication between multiple site entry cabins, giving site managers the freedom to move multiple site access points to any location and maintain constant communication between all cabins. This is ideal in remote locations, or where the site perimeter is moved as each construction stage is completed.

Now in use at eight Carillion sites in the UK and 10 other main contractor sites, the system holds records of workers’ unique biometric details – which can be iris, hand, vein, face or finger data – and these are used to verify the identity of those entering or leaving the site.

Wireless 3G technology allows all the access cabins to share information instantly with a central database, ensuring site access records are always accurate and up-to-date.

Nick Wilkinson, Construction Specialist at HRS said: “Site managers can see, at a glance, who is on site and use the software to manage attendance, health and safety records and view CSCS accreditations.

“Additional information, such as incident penalty points and CSCS accreditation expiry details can also be added to individual profiles and once an employee reaches a pre-assigned limit can be automatically banned from site or have alarms raised against their record to facilitate management action.

“As employees can be located across multiple sites, once banned, the information is instantly shared via 3G to every site access cabin.

“The contractor’s head office can also download central records and, if technological support is required, it can be provided instantly via remote access.”
