Drivers Jonas Deloitte secures permission for city's second tallest building
Property consultant Drivers Jonas Deloitte has secured planning permission for a 33-storey residential tower on New Wakefield Street, Manchester.
A joint development between Allied Developments and Connislow, the £28 million project will accommodate 520 bedrooms for students, postgraduates, mature and overseas students as well as key workers.
It will be the second tallest building in Manchester after the Beetham Tower on which DJ Deloitte also acted as planning consultants.
Due to be completed in 2012, the scheme – which is being built by Shepherd Construction –will include a mix of self-contained studio apartments and cluster-style communal accommodation.
Hodder + Partners have designed the building which is situated on a plot of just 7,000 sq ft.
Graham Stock, director from Drivers Jonas Deloitte, said: “This is a landmark scheme for Manchester which is being brought forward at a time when development activity has all but ground to a halt in many UK city centres.
“The city’s higher education sector makes a major contribution to the regional economy and schemes like this will continue to help Manchester’s universities compete with other institutions both here and overseas.”
