Education technology vendors sponsor search for ICT excellence

Brother UK and Toshiba are supporting a national awards scheme to find the brightest and best ICT practice in education in the UK.

The Specialist Schools and Academies Trust’s (SSAT) ICT Register Showcase Awards will celebrate innovative and sustainable practice in Information and Communications Technologies (ICT) and its impact on teaching and learning.

The competition is open to the 640 schools, academies and learning centres listed on the SSAT’s ICT Register that are able to demonstrate the outstanding use of ICT in their own schools to support learning and teaching, and to demonstrate the impact that sharing this knowledge and expertise has had on the wider education community.

Nominated schools will be asked to add their entries to ICT in Action on the ICT Register’s website. A shortlist will be selected by representatives of the ICT Register and its sponsors and open to a nationwide vote in January. The award winning schools will be announced in March 2010 and the top four schools will provide showcases of their work at the ICT Register Showcase conference on 16th March 2010 in Loughborough.

The awards sponsorship follows Brother and Toshiba’s support of the SSAT’s Futures Vision Awards and Tour, which celebrated effective use of ICT in learning and community activities.

Michelle Molloy, Senior Education and Mobile Solutions Manager, Brother UK, said:
“The ICT Register is a fantastic resource for schools to share real-life experiences and their journeys towards implementing and embedding ICT –– in order to provide best practice and practical advice for schools considering similar innovations.”

“The awards will take this one step further and celebrate some of the very best practice being undertaken by registered schools across the country.”

Tony Parkin, Head of ICT Development, Specialist Schools and Academies Trust, said:
“The ICT Register is an effective school to school support network that helps teachers learn from each other and develop their use of technologies across many aspects of school activity.

“The ICT Register Awards provide a wonderful opportunity to celebrate the best practice in ICT and to highlight the success of schools sharing this practice with each other through the ICT Register.”

Nominations close on the 15th November. To make a nomination or for more information, please go to http://www.ict-register.net/showcase-awards.php
