Swadlincote pub reopens after £20k revamp
A Swadlincote pub has reopened thanks to a £20,000 investment by leading pub company Admiral Taverns.
The Ashby Woulds pub on Blackfordby Lane, Moira has re-opened following a seven week extensive refurbishment programme, and new landlord Dave Bonner has been delighted by the response from customers.
Dave said: “My wife Kim and I regularly used to drive by the pub and thought what a shame it was that is was no longer open. When we saw that the lease had become available, we immediately jumped on it.
“I’m a former chef, and was keen to introduce a food menu, so we’ve completely refitted the kitchen, and the pub’s new open-plan layout gives us the space to host functions and live entertainment. My daughter Gemma has experience in running a pub, so she has also been helping us with the refurb.
“We’ve given the pub a fifties and sixties theme and are keen to build up a range of regular events like karaoke, speed dating and special ladies nights to keep our customers coming back for more. Word is getting around about the reopening and we’re attracting new faces every day.
Dave added: “Admiral’s investment has helped immensely in getting the pub up and running again and I’m determined to build on this initial success. Being a landlord isn’t a career choice I originally considered but I’ve really enjoyed being my own boss and getting to know my customers.”
David Homer, business development manager for Admiral Taverns, said: “Dave, Kim and their daughter Gemma have completely transformed the Ashby Woulds pub and are trading extremely well despite the current economic climate.
“We were keen to invest in the pub to help the family bring their ideas to life and give Moira back its village pub.
“We have a number of other pubs available in the Derbyshire area and are always looking for landlords, like Dave, who have the charisma and drive to run a successful business.”
