Recognition for Weedon landlord
A landlord from Weedon with a dedicated approach to running her pub is being recognised by leading pub company Admiral Taverns.
Hayley-Doune Parker (32) of The Wheatsheaf, on High Street, Weedon, has been chosen from over 2,000 landlords nationwide to receive an Admiral Taverns Achievement Award.
Hayley, who runs the pub with her husband Mark (33), has been at The Wheatsheaf for nine years.
Hayley said: “I’ve worked in bars all my life and I’ve always really wanted to run my own pub - my grandparents owned their own pub, so it runs in the family.
“I actually used to work in a pub just down the road from The Wheatsheaf and often popped in for a drink, so I’ve always been aware of it. I moved away from the area for a few years but, when I saw that Admiral was looking for a new landlord for the pub, I decided to move back and take it on.”
With five children of her own, Hayley has worked hard to create a family-friendly atmosphere at the pub. She is now a well known member of the community and the pub has become increasingly popular with locals.
She continued: “We have four darts teams, and regularly host karaoke evening and poker nights. We’re very big on football here too, and show all the big games.
“We’re very proud of the positive changes we’ve made to the pub over the years and are delighted to have received this award.”
Admiral Taverns – the UK’s largest independent operator of tenanted and leased pubs – introduced Achievement Awards to help recognise landlords like Hayley who have shown best practice and made a positive impact on their pub and their community.
