Recognition for long-serving Gloucester landlord
A landlord from Gloucester with over twenty years’ experience in the industry is being recognised by leading pub company Admiral Taverns for her dedication to the trade.
Evelyn Mann of the Great Western on Alfred Street has been chosen from nearly 2,000 landlords nationwide to receive an Admiral Taverns Achievement Award.
Evelyn has been at the pub for 24 years, after following in her father’s footsteps to work in the pub trade.
Evelyn said: “I was obviously familiar with the trade through my dad, and I always knew that it was the life for me. I’m from the local area, so, when the Great Western pub became available, I jumped at the chance to take it on.”
Great Western recently won Best Pub Garden in the Gloucester In Bloom Awards 2010 – the third time that the pub has been recognised in the competition.
Evelyn said: “I work hard to maintain the garden at the pub and was really pleased to win the award again this year.
“I can’t imagine having any other job – I love how rewarding running my own pub is, and would highly recommend the lifestyle to anyone looking to take on a new challenge.”
Admiral Taverns – one of the UK’s largest independent operator of tenanted and leased pubs – introduced Achievement Awards to help recognise landlords like Evelyn who have shown best practice and made a positive impact on their pub and their community.
Geoff Spafford, business development manager for Admiral Taverns, said: “Evelyn is a fantastic role model for anyone who’s ever wanted to run a pub. “Her continued commitment to the Great Western is admirable and just goes to show the type of lifelong job satisfaction that our landlords can enjoy.
“We are always on the look out for people who have the personality and drive to run a successful pub and have a number of available venues in the area. To find out more, contact our recruitment team on 0845 070 8950 or visit www.admiraltaverns.co.uk.”
