Princes Risborough landlords are bucking the trend
A group of landlords, who have worked hard to establish a reputation for excellence, are encouraging anyone thinking about crossing sides of the bar to take the plunge.
Ian Wilson and Lynne Comley, who have been at The Black Horse pub on Main Road in Lacey Green for 11 and 14 years respectively, are being recognised by pub company Admiral Taverns as two of its best performing publicans.
Ian and Lynne are currently celebrating after the Black Horse made it into the Good Pub Guide for the third year running, and also secured a place in the Good Beer Guide 2010/2011.
Ian said: “We have always strived to offer our customers a wide choice of drinks, top quality traditional pub food and a warm welcome, and it seems to have paid off.”
Lynne added: “Running a pub can be hard work but it’s also extremely rewarding. We’ve found that the most important thing when it comes to being a landlord is to do the basics well, keep track of what your customers want and make the effort to keep things fresh and interesting – it’s certainly served us well.”
Ged Macken, business development manager for Admiral Taverns: “Ian and Lynne are great role models for anyone who’s ever wanted to run a pub. They’ve worked hard to build the profile of the Black Horse over the years and have been extremely successful in creating a thriving pub.
“There are plenty of pubs like the Black Horse that are trading extremely well and many vacant venues that offer fantastic opportunities for landlords who want to try something new.”
Admiral Taverns have a number of pubs available in the Buckinghamshire area. For more information about running a pub, contact Admiral Taverns’ recruitment team on 0845 070 8950 or visit www.admiraltaverns.com.
