Oldham landlords receive national pub award
A pair of landlords from Oldham who have helped raise over £1,300 for a local charity in just three months are being recognised by leading pub company Admiral Taverns.
Rod Smith and Brenda Davidson of the Brewery Tavern on George Street have been chosen from over 2,000 landlords nationwide to receive an Admiral Taverns Achievement Award.
Since arriving at the pub in September, the pair have raised considerable funds for the Pennine Pen Animal Rescue charity by regularly running events like drag nights, raffles and tombola.
Rod said: “I’ve lived in the Oldham area all my life and I used to run the Dog and Duck pub on St. Domingo Street. After taking a break from the industry for a couple of years, I was given the chance to take on the Brewery Tavern; I was keen to get back into the trade so I grabbed the opportunity.
“Pennine Pen has always been a charity close to mine and Brenda’s hearts, and we wanted to raise as much money as possible for them by hosting exciting and varied nights that we knew our customers would enjoy.”
The pair also donate to the charity from their food profits and are planning another charity event on Sunday 16th January to coincide with Brenda’s birthday.
Brenda said: “We’re really pleased that our customers have continued to give so generously to this fantastic cause and are delighted to have received this award in recognition of our fundraising work.”
Admiral Taverns – the UK’s largest independent operator of tenanted and leased pubs – introduced Achievement Awards to help recognise landlords like Rod and Brenda who have shown best practice and made a positive impact on their pub and their community.
Tony Ellis, business development manager for Admiral Taverns, said: “Rod and Brenda are fantastic role models for anyone who’s ever wanted to run a pub.
“Their fun loving approach to running the Brewery Tavern has established the pub as the hub of the community, and has also seen them make a valuable contribution to this worthy charity.
“We are always on the look out for people who have the personality and drive to run a successful pub and have a number of available venues in the area. To find out more, contact our recruitment team on 0845 070 8950 or visit www.admiraltaverns.co.uk.”
