Manchester landlord scoops top pub award
A pair of landlords from Ashton-Under-Lyne who have revived their pub as a traditional country local are being recognised nationally by leading pub company Admiral Taverns.
Annette and Chris Price, who run The Hare & Hounds pub on Luzley Road, Luzley, have been chosen from over 2,000 landlords nationwide to receive an Admiral Taverns Achievement Award.
Since taking on the pub earlier this year, Annette and Chris have focused on offering good food and a warm welcome to their customers.
Annette said: “We serve a wide variety of food, including a ‘Specials’ menu, seven days a week, all of which is homemade. We try to use local produce wherever we can and there’s always at least one game dish on the menu. We’ve also brought in a popular range of real ales.”
As well as introducing a new menu, Annette and Chris have repainted the outside of the pub and revamped the play area and garden to provide pleasant surrounding for the variety of outdoor community events that they regularly host.
Annette continued: “We often hold family events where we’ll lay on a hog roast and a barbeque for our regulars to enjoy.
“The main thing we’ve learnt from our 13 years in the trade is that you have to listen to your customers, and do your best to provide what they require and that’s the basis on which we always try to run our pub.”
Admiral Taverns – the UK’s largest independent operator of tenanted and leased pubs – introduced Achievement Awards to help recognise landlords, like Annette and Chris, who have shown best practice and made a positive impact on their pub.
