Hampshire landlord wins national pub award
A landlord from Gosport, who has established her pub as the centre of her community, is being recognised nationally by leading pub company Admiral Taverns.
Rose Anderson who runs The Grange pub on Nimrod Drive in Gosport has been chosen from over 2,000 landlords nationwide to receive an Admiral Taverns Achievement Award.
Since taking on the pub on 2001, Rose has regularly organised a wide variety of family events to provide her customers with a range of entertainment right on their doorstep.
Rose said: “I’d already worked in the pub industry for a long time when I came to The Grange, and this pub has actually been my local for 20 years. Obviously, it’s been a very personal project for me, and I wanted to provide local people with a place where they could come and really enjoy themselves without spending a fortune.”
Upcoming events at the pub included a Trafalgar Night Dinner to celebrate the 204th anniversary of the famous battle and Halloween parties for both children and adults, while Rose has also organised several fundraising events for local charities over the years.
The housing estate where The Grange is located is currently undergoing a multi-million redevelopment which will last for five years and see many of the regulars temporarily relocated, but Rose has no plans to close the doors of her pub.
Rose continued: “I will still be running my events and will be here when my regulars all return to their new homes. I can’t wait to see how the redevelopment turns out as I’m sure it will improve the lives of many of my customers.”
Admiral Taverns – the UK’s largest independent operator of tenanted and leased pubs – introduced Achievement Awards to help recognise landlords, like Rose, who have shown best practice and made a positive impact on their pub.
Ged Macken, business development manager for Admiral Taverns, said: “Rose is a great role model for anyone who’s ever wanted to run a pub. Her passion for pubs and for her local community means her time at The Grange has been productive and really shaped the local area.
“We’re always looking for people with the skills and personality to run a pub and urge anyone who’s interested to attend our recruitment event which takes place on Saturday 17 October at the Spring Gardens Tavern in Hotwell, Bristol between 11am and 3pm.”
The Admiral Taverns open day at the Spring Garden Taverns is designed to help people find out more about the pub industry and what it takes to be a landlord. For more information, contact Admiral Taverns’ recruitment team on 0845 070 8950 or visit www.admiraltaverns.co.uk.
