Fundraising landlords win pub award
A pair of licensees from Accrington who have raised thousands of pounds for charity are being recognised by leading pub company Admiral Taverns.
Mick and Lorraine Morris of the Abbey Hotel, Accrington, have been chosen from over 2,000 landlords nationwide to receive an Admiral Taverns Achievement Award.
Mick and Lorraine have been at the Abbey Hotel on Bank Street for just under three years.
Mick said: “I actually used to live just around the corner from the Abbey Hotel, so I’ve always been aware of it. I was working as a paint sprayer and fancied a change of scene; when I saw that Admiral was looking for a new landlord for the pub, I jumped at the chance to take it on.”
Mick and Lorraine’s run a number of fundraising events at the pub, and recently presented a cheque for £500 to Broadfield Specialist School in Oswaldtwistle.
Mick continued: “All the customers vote to choose a new preferred charity on a regular basis; we’ll be donating another cheque to Macmillan Cancer Support in September.
“We’re very proud of the positive changes we’ve made to the pub and our contribution to local charities over the years and are delighted to have received this award.”
Admiral Taverns – the UK’s largest independent operator of tenanted and leased pubs – introduced Achievement Awards to help recognise landlords like Mick and Lorraine who have shown best practice and made a positive impact on their pub and their community.
Stuart Watt, business development manager for Admiral Taverns, said: “Mick and Lorraine are fantastic role models for anyone who’s ever wanted to run a pub. Their hard work over the years and contribution to charities has established the Abbey Hotel as the hub of the community and they should be very proud of her achievements.
“We are always on the look out for people who have the personality and drive to run a successful pub and have a number of available venues in the area. To find out more, contact our recruitment team on 0845 070 8950 or visit www.admiraltaverns.co.uk.”
