Churton landlords celebrate award win

A group of Churton landlords with an innovative approach to running their pub are being recognised by leading pub company Admiral Taverns.

Stewart Ellams and Jamie and Jackie Williams of The White Horse in Churton have been chosen from over 2,000 landlords nationwide to receive an Admiral Taverns Achievement Award.

Stewart, Jamie and Jackie have been in business together for just over a year.

Stewart said: “We’ve worked hard to place The White Horse at the heart of the local community by making it a real meeting point for local people.

“We had a disused building at the back of the pub that was going to waste, so we cleared it all out and we now rent it to a local cake maker. It’s been a great way to make some extra income and support another local business.”

As Jamie previous worked as a head chef in a number of restaurants, the team build many of the pub’s events around food offerings.

Stewart continued: “We have an outside bar that we erect when we host parties and barbeques in the summer, and we frequently cater for events in the village hall in Alford.

“We also host a fish and chip night on Tuesdays along with a quiz and a popular steak night on Thursdays.

“We’re very proud of the positive changes we’ve made to the pub and are delighted to have received this award.”

Admiral Taverns – the UK’s largest independent operator of tenanted and leased pubs – introduced Achievement Awards to help recognise landlords like Stewart, Jamie and Jackie who have shown best practice and made a positive impact on their pub and their community.

Paul Holmes, marketing communications manager for Admiral Taverns, said: “Stewart, Jamie and Jackie are fantastic role models for anyone who’s ever wanted to run a pub. Their unique approach to running The White Horse has established the pub as the hub of the community.

“We are always on the look out for people who have the personality and drive to run a successful pub and have a number of available venues in the area. To find out more, contact our recruitment team on 0845 070 8950 or visit www.admiraltaverns.co.uk.”
