Award winning landlords celebrate success

A pair of landlords from Swansea who have transformed their pub into a popular community local are being recognised by leading pub company Admiral Taverns.

Mark and Sarah Crabbe of The Pilot of Mumbles pub on Mumbles Road have been chosen from over 2,000 landlords nationwide to receive an Admiral Taverns Achievement Award.

Mark and Sarah, who have been at The Pilot of Mumbles for two years, are enjoying the freedom that comes with running their own pub.

Mark said: “Sarah and I have many years’ experience in the hospitality industry and it’s been a long-held ambition of ours to run our own pub.

“We spent several years looking for the right place before The Pilot became available. We quickly realised that the pub had a lot of potential and that we could really put our own stamp on it, so we jumped at the chance to take it on.”

The pub has gone from strength to strength under the couple’s leadership, even recently receiving a write up in The Sunday Times as part of an article highlighting the UK’s most sociable drinking destinations.

Mark has used his previous experience as a restaurant manager to help create a tempting menu filled with traditional, homemade dishes made from fresh, local produce.

Sarah said: “We’re really pleased that our customers have responded so well to our changes to the menu and the other improvements we’ve made to the pub.

“We’re delighted to have received this award in recognition of our efforts.”

Admiral Taverns – on of the UK’s largest independent operator of tenanted and leased pubs – introduced Achievement Awards to help recognise landlords like Mark and Sarah who have shown best practice and made a positive impact on their pub and their community.

Richard Eastman, business development manager for Admiral Taverns, said: “Mark and Sarah are fantastic role models for anyone who’s ever wanted to run a pub.

“Their dedicated approach to running The Pilot of Mumbles has transformed the pub and established it as a hub of the community.

“We are always on the look out for people who have the personality and drive to run a successful pub and have a number of available venues in the area. To find out more, contact our recruitment team on 0845 070 8950 or visit www.admiraltaverns.co.uk.
